Newbie Armor Quests
Racial 1-10 armor chains. Every starting city has them.
Every starting city offers a newbie armor quest — a single-zone turn-in chain that rewards class-appropriate no-drop armor to characters below level 10. The pieces are not top-tier, but they are free, race-themed, and define a new character's starting look on The Last Camp.
How they work
- The quest starter is almost always a vendor or guard inside the racial hometown.
- Components are common drops from the racial newbie yard (orc scalps, goblin teeth, wolf pelts, gnoll fangs, etc.).
- Hand-ins reward class-keyed armor slots — Warriors get plate, Clerics get chain, Wizards get cloth, and so on.
- Sets are typically no-drop and lore, so they cannot be twinked between characters.
- All pieces sit at roughly AC 8-12 with minor stat bumps. They are a step above NPC merchant gear and a step below low-tier crafted.
By race / starting city
Faydark cluster
- Kelethin — Wood Elves. Faydark spider silks, orc warrior teeth, and crushbone belts feed the chain. Vendors near the Tunarian guild platforms accept the components.
- Felwithe — High Elves. Faydark crushbone components plus Felwithe-internal turn-ins. Class-restricted to the High Elf class set (Paladin, Cleric, Wizard, Magician, Enchanter).
- Kaladim — Dwarves. Butcherblock Mountains goblin and gnoll drops, plus a few Estate-of-Unrest spider components for the higher tiers.
- Ak'Anon — Gnomes. Steamfont Mountains minotaur and clockwork pieces. The chain rewards distinctive gnome-flavored armor with small INT/AGI bumps.
Antonican cluster
- Qeynos (North and South) — Humans, Half Elves, and Barbarian alts. Qeynos Hills gnoll fangs, Blackburrow skins, and beetle parts feed the chain. Quest givers include the Temple of Life staff and the Guard House crew.
- Surefall Glade — Rangers and Druids (Human, Half Elf). Wolf pelts and bear pelts from Qeynos Hills.
- Freeport (North, East, West) — Humans and Half Elves. Common Lands gnoll teeth, orc components, and beetle parts. Multiple quest givers split by class.
- Erudin / Paineel — Erudites. Toxxulia spider silks, mushrooms, and zombie parts. Paineel's Heretic-aligned set is the dark mirror of Erudin's.
- Halas — Barbarians. Everfrost Peaks gnoll fang, polar bear pelt, and ice goblin component turn-ins. Distinctive Barbarian-themed leathers and chain.
- Rivervale — Halflings. Misty Thicket bandit and decaying-skeleton drops. Faction with the Mayor's office matters.
Antonican (evil) cluster
- Grobb — Trolls. Innothule swamp alligator and froglok drops. The Troll set leans toward Shadow Knight and Warrior plates.
- Oggok — Ogres. Feerrott drake hatchling parts and skeleton fragments. Ogre Shaman and Warrior sets dominate the rewards.
- Neriak (Foreign, Commons, Third Gate) — Dark Elves. Nektulos spider silks, decaying-skeleton parts, and orc drops feed the chain. The DE set is class-specific and visually iconic.
Outer continents
- Cabilis (East and West) — Iksar. Field of Bone decaying-skeleton parts, scaled wolf pelts, and goblin components. The Iksar chain extends slightly further than other races' — pieces requiring a level 8-10 minimum because the Iksar starter zone is harder.
- Shar Vahl — Vah Shir. Shar Vahl-internal turn-ins plus Hollowshade Moon owlbear and grimling components. The set is Luclin-era so the materials and flavor are different.
- Crescent Reach — Drakkin. The Last Camp era cap is PoP, and Crescent Reach is a Serpent's Spine (post-PoP) starting zone. Drakkin newbie armor quests are not available on The Last Camp — Drakkin characters do not exist on the server.
Reward profile
Newbie armor sits below crafted gear and well below quested mid-tier sets like Mistmoore Signet loot or Ulthork Tusk Dagger tier. Its job is to bridge the level 1 to level 10 gap before a character either banks for crafted gear or moves to a hub city for resale-tier upgrades.
Statlines vary by class but generally:
- AC: 8-12 per piece.
- Stats: +2-4 in a class-appropriate primary stat.
- Resists: none to negligible.
Custom race-class adjustments
The Last Camp's any-race-class doctrine means newbie armor quests sometimes reward armor inappropriate for the character's class. A High Elf Rogue, for example, can run the Felwithe chain but receives cloth rewards rather than leather — the quest is keyed to the city's traditional classes, not the player's actual class.
In practice this means:
- Off-class race players often skip the newbie armor chain and go directly to crafted or merchant gear.
- Iksar Shaman or Troll Shaman characters get the most value, since the canonical class fit aligns with the city's reward.
Tips
- Run the chain in the first 1-3 levels; components are easy.
- Check faction before accepting the quest — Dark Elves and Trolls have faction-restricted quest givers.
- Some pieces (gloves, helm) require components from level 5-8 mobs. Don't expect the full set at level 3.
- The set is no-drop, so off-character twinking does not work.
- Save quest containers — some chains use specific bags or boxes (Soiled Cloth Bundles, etc.) that drop alongside the components.
- Hand-in dialog is sometimes case-sensitive. Match the in-game text exactly when prompted.
- If a turn-in NPC eats your components without rewarding, you almost certainly turned in to the wrong NPC. Check the canonical chain in a recent walkthrough.
