THE LAST CAMP

The Signet of the Arcane is the access quest that lets a character open the inner-sanctum doors of Mistmoore Castle, where Mayong Mistmoore himself sits. Without it, the deepest chambers of the castle are locked. With it, your raid can fight Mayong on his own ground rather than the path that leads to him. The quest is built around three engraved signet sections that drop from named courtiers within the castle and combine into the final keyed signet.

At a glance

Field Value
Reward Signet of the Arcane (no-drop, persistent)
Quest type Key / access
Recommended level 50+ to clear the courtiers efficiently; group required
Solo / group / raid Group for component clears; raid recommended for Mayong himself
Zones visited Mistmoore Castle
Time estimate 2-4 sessions for component drops; longer if drops are unlucky
Prereqs Survivable in Mistmoore upper halls; lockpick or party-bash for some sub-doors helps

Reward

Signet of the Arcane is no-drop and not consumed. It opens the inner-sanctum door leading to Mayong Mistmoore's chamber. The signet itself has minor stats but its real value is the door access — a raid wanting to engage Mayong on The Last Camp needs at least one keyed character (typically the puller or the raid leader).

Walkthrough

The signet is built from three engraved signet sections, each dropped by a named courtier within the castle. The classic naming convention has the three pieces as top, center, and bottom sections.

Step 1 — Top Section of an Engraved Signet

Drops from a named vampire courtier in the upper halls of Mistmoore Castle. The courtier patrols a fixed circuit and respawns on a slow timer. A group of 50+ characters can clear comfortably; the named hits hard but isn't raid-tier.

Bring an undead-charm or undead-heavy DPS class (Cleric for undead damage, Necromancer for snare-and-DoT) to speed up the kill window.

Step 2 — Center Section of an Engraved Signet

Drops from a second named courtier deeper in the castle, near the central library / dining hall area. This named is moderately tougher than the top-section drop and may have an attendant or two. Pull carefully — a bad pull adds vampire mistweavers, which dispel and root.

Step 3 — Bottom Section of an Engraved Signet

Drops from the third named courtier in the lower halls, closer to the inner-sanctum doors themselves. This is the hardest of the three component named — partially because the surrounding mobs are higher level and partially because the named's room is small and hard to clear cleanly.

Step 4 — Combine

Bring all three signet sections to the designated combine container (the canonical recipe uses a generic combine in inventory, no special forge required). Combine to receive the Signet of the Arcane.

Step 5 — Open the inner sanctum

Travel to the inner-sanctum door deep in Mistmoore Castle. With the signet in inventory, the door opens. Beyond lies Mayong Mistmoore's chamber — the raid encounter the entire chain enables.

Mayong Mistmoore — what awaits

Mayong is a full raid encounter with vampire-themed mechanics: lifetap, charm, undead-summon adds, and a punishing damage shield. Era-correct loot includes vampire-themed weapons and Velious-tier gear pieces. Mayong's loot table is one of the few Classic-era endgame tables that remains relevant well into Velious gearing.

A raid clearing Mayong typically wants:

  • 2-3 keyed pullers (in case of deaths during the engagement).
  • Cleric-heavy healing setup (lifetap mechanics).
  • Undead DPS classes for the burn phase.

Custom race-class adjustments

The Last Camp's any-race-class server doctrine doesn't change the signet chain — it's drops-based, not faction-gated. However:

  • Faydark faction matters for travel. Mistmoore sits in the Faydark cluster (Lesser Faydark entrance). Dark Elf or Troll raiders should expect Faydark guard hostility en route.
  • Indifferent Mistmoore vampire faction is achievable through Dark Bargainer turn-ins. KOS Mistmoore faction makes the courtier camps brutally hostile.

Spawn cycles and contention

The three component named are on independent timers, typically multi-hour respawns. The Last Camp has not adjusted these rates from canonical TAKP defaults. During peak hours, expect competition with other groups running the chain — plan camp etiquette in advance, and consider running in off-peak windows.

The named are also occasionally interrupted by patrolling mistweavers — a bad pull can wipe a group mid-fight. Mark patrol paths before engaging.

Tips

  • Run the chain with a fixed group. Drop rates favor patient camping. Pickup groups that disband mid-named-rotation waste hours.
  • Check faction with Mistmoore vampires before assaulting the upper halls.
  • Bring undead damage — vampire courtiers count as undead, so Cleric undead nukes and Paladin damage bonuses apply.
  • Coordinate with raid leadership — having multiple keyed characters is recommended for backup pulling.
  • Don't open the inner door early. Mayong is not a soft pull. Make sure your raid is staged before the door opens.
  • The signet is permanent. One run per character, then the door opens whenever you bring the key.
