Karana is the god of storms, of all weather, and of the long open road that runs under whatever sky the day chooses to wear.

The pantheon styles him the Rainkeeper; the plainsfolk who name their cities after him style him simply Father.

Where the other neutral deities of the canon take their portfolios from a particular sphere — fire, ocean, earth — Karana takes his from a process: the weather itself, the cycle, the patient unending negotiation between sky and ground that decides whether a season is generous or cruel.

Origins

Karana is one of the older deities of the pantheon, older than most of the formal arrangements that came after. The plainsfolk hold that he existed before the first farmer ever walked an open field — that he was simply the sky's interest in itself, given a name and a character only when mortals began to need someone to thank or to blame.

The druidic and ranger traditions agree on the gist: Karana predates worship, and worship was the late mortal addition to a relationship that already existed.

The early prayers to him were apologies, in the older readings — apologies for noticing him, for naming him, for asking him to attend to small mortal concerns when he had the entire sky to manage.

The lowland Karana cult is centered on the Karanas — the named plains of central Antonica — and the herder villages that rise along the edges. The wilder weather-cult, which emphasizes Karana's storm-aspect over his agrarian one, has connections through ranger and druid orders to the elemental sphere and the storm-court of Agnarr above the planes.

Conflicts and alliances

Karana has few permanent enemies in the canon, which is the privilege of the pure-neutral deities. His central frictions are with the spheres that suppress weather rather than work with it — the dread-aligned Cazic-Thule, whose plane permits no honest sky, and certain death-aligned realms whose unnatural calm Karana's worshipers consider an affront.

He stands in long good relationship with Tunare, with whom his sphere overlaps directly: weather is the verb, growth is the noun. The two cults have collaborated on cross-realm work since the early ages, and the agrarian villages of the lowlands typically maintain shrines to both deities in the same building.

He has correct relations with Brell Serilis, whose underworld he respects on the principle that any sphere old enough deserves the courtesy. His relationship with Agnarr is the central theological puzzle of the storm-cult: parent, child, peer, or aspect, the texts will not decide.

Domain

Storms, weather in all registers, travel under any sky, the open road, the slow cycle of seasons.

His sphere also covers the agrarian work that depends on weather — the patient negotiation between farmer and sky — and the longer travelers' relationship between caravan and storm front.

Karana is consistently held to be pure neutral; the sky is not moral. The plainsfolk treat the doctrine as foundational, and the wider druidic tradition treats it as a useful corrective against the moralizing tendencies of the upper-court deities.

Followers

Plainsfolk are his most consistent worshipers, and the herder-villages of the Karanas hold him as a patron of universal address.

Druids and rangers across nearly every race name him as a primary or secondary patron, and the larger druid circles maintain weather-shrines at most major outdoor crossings.

Travelers offer prayers to him before crossing any unsheltered zone — a habit the longer caravan routes treat as professional courtesy rather than devotion. The Last Camp's class system permits any class to worship the Rainkeeper, and rangers and druids will continue to find his name welcome at every shrine.

Planar realm

The Plane of Storms is Karana's lowland court — a permanent weather realm of rolling thunderheads, open plains, herd-spirits, and the quiet attention of the Rainkeeper himself.

The plane reads less as a destination than as a continuation: the lowland weather of Norrath, extended into a planar register without losing its character.

Above it sits the storm-court of Agnarr in the Bastion of Thunder, which the lowland faith treats as a sister realm rather than a rival. Karana's plane is consistently described as kinder than its weather suggests; the rain falls but does not punish, and the wind moves but does not throw the visitor.
