Bard Epic 1.0 — Singing Short Sword

Baldric Slezaf in Dreadlands sends you to assemble three Maestro's Symphony pages and a Mystical Lute. Ends with a triggered Trakanon kill in Old Sebilis.

The Bard Epic 1.0 rewards the Singing Short Sword — a 16/26 Primary/Secondary 1H slash with +15 STR, +10 DEX, +5 STA, +20 CHA, +100 HP, +10 all resists, and the Dance of the Blade effect: a 55% haste / +30 STR / +30 ATK party buff with a 2:30 duration and ~150ft range. The sword also functions as an instrument with a 1.8 all-instrument modifier when held in the primary slot. Magic / Lore / No Drop, Bard-only, level 46 to equip.

The chain begins with Baldric Slezaf at the pyramid in Dreadlands (loc +775, +9665) and breaks into four parallel subchains: three Maestro's Symphony pages and a Mystical Lute. Each page is its own multi-step run, and the Mystical Lute requires a Quag Maelstrom kill in Ocean of Tears, two dragon scale drops, two named kills, and a triggered Trakanon in Old Sebilis.

The signature kill is Trakanon (triggered) — spawned from An Undead Bard in Old Sebilis after handing in the Mystical Lute Body. This is a separate spawn from Trakanon's normal Sebilis encounter and drops the chain-specific Undead Dragongut Strings.

Collect three loots:
- Kill Phinigel Autropos in Kedge Keep → loot Kedge Backbone.

Final Combine

Baldric Slezaf at the Dreadlands pyramid — Give Page 24 Top + Page 24 Bottom + Page 25 + Mystical Lute → receive Singing Short Sword.

Custom race-class adjustments

The Last Camp allows any race to roll Bard. The chain runs through faction-neutral terrain for most of its length, but a few NPCs need attention:

Vedico Windwhisper at Butcherblock docks is hostile to Trolls, Ogres, Iksar, and Dark Elves. Use illusions, invis-from-songs, or a faction grind through Kaladim before the Alluring Horn hand-in.
Forpar Fizfla in Steamfont Mountains is the linchpin of the Mystical Lute subchain — three separate hand-ins. Verify faction before turning in Alluring Horn.
Marfen Binkdirple in Solusek's Eye is reachable for any race that can survive the lava entrance.
The Old Sebilis Trakanon trigger is a raid step — no race adjustment needed at that stage.

Group composition

Solo (~10 steps): the relay race, hails, and most fetches.
Group (~6 steps): Maligar's Enraged Doppleganger, Onyx Drake / Red Wurm / Chromodrac, Amygdalan Warrior, Drolvarg Warlord, Quag Maelstrom (with water-breathing).
Raid (3 steps): Phinigel Autropos (12-18), red dragon (12-18 with cold resist for Vox-route), and triggered Trakanon in Old Sebilis (18-24 — same gear profile as regular Trakanon).

Tips

Run the four subchains in parallel — most steps are independent. Don't serialize.
The relay race subchain (A) is the fastest and a good warmup. Knock it out in one session.
Forpar Fizfla is the bottleneck of the Lute subchain — three of his hand-ins gate the rest. If his spawn cycle is long, plan the dragon and Phinigel kills around his window.
The Maligar step spawns the Doppleganger in Western Karana (Western Plains). Don't confuse it with the regular Maligar mob — the trigger is from the Note hand-in.
The triggered Trakanon in Old Sebilis is a separate encounter from the regular Trakanon spawn. Bring a slower, dispel rotation, and a strong main tank. Magic resist gear.
The red dragon scale step has four valid sources. Coordinate with the guild's regular dragon farm and don't fly a dedicated raid if not needed.
Singing Short Sword's Dance of the Blade is a party-wide haste + ATK buff — a Bard with the sword equipped becomes a force multiplier for the rest of the raid. Don't bank it; equip it.
The instrument modifier (1.8) applies when held primary. If you dual-wield, the instrument bonus is lost on the off-hand — plan accordingly.
