Fennin Ro, the Tyrant of Fire
The Tyrant of Fire — fire-elemental aspect of Solusek Ro, ruler of the Plane of Fire and one of the elemental court.
Fennin Ro is the elemental fire-aspect tied to the Solusek Ro line and an end boss of the Plane of Fire. For the canonical sixteen deities of Norrath see Gods of Norrath; for the upper-court fire god proper see Solusek Ro.
Fennin Ro, the Tyrant of Fire, is the elemental face of the fire sphere — the avatar in which the divine fire of Solusek Ro is reduced to its purest material expression and given a throne in the elemental court.
Where Solusek Ro is the prince of fire, the sun, and the secrets that fire reveals, Fennin Ro is fire itself.
He is the molten core, the unconsumed flame, the cruelty of heat unmediated by any further meaning.
Origins
The theological texts disagree on whether Fennin Ro was once a separate elemental being who attached himself to the Solusek Ro line, or whether he is and has always been an aspect of Solusek deliberately divided off into the elemental sphere so that the prince's higher concerns would not be tied to the elemental court.
The fire-cultists of southern Antonica favor the first reading: Fennin is older than the prince, and the prince's accommodation of him is a politic alliance rather than a parental one. The Temple of Solusek Ro favors the second reading: Fennin is the prince's elemental hand, and the throne in the Plane of Fire is held in the prince's name.
For the elemental court itself the question is academic. Fennin sits with Coirnav of water, the air-queen Xegony, and the earth-lord of the Plane of Earth as one of the four elemental rulers, and his court treats him as such regardless of how the upper pantheon files him.
Conflicts and alliances
Fire and water are the canonical elemental opposition, and Fennin Ro's relationship with Coirnav is the longest-running enmity within the elemental court. The two have never been reconciled and are not likely to be; their courts maintain a permanent state of cold war that occasionally erupts into open elemental conflict.
With the air-queen and earth-lord, Fennin has the wary equilibrium of peers who do not particularly want to share a court but acknowledge the necessity. The four elemental rulers convene as required and otherwise leave each other to their own planes.
Outside the elemental sphere, his alliance with the Solusek Ro line is unbreakable; his relationship with Brell Serilis, through whose forges his fire passes, is correct without being warm.
Domain
Pure elemental fire — magma, the heart of furnaces, the unliveable temperature, the flame that does not need fuel and does not stop when there is nothing left to burn.
Fennin's sphere does not include the symbolic register of fire (ambition, secret-keeping, the sun) which belongs to Solusek Ro; he holds the material register only.
The division is enforced by both halves of the fire pantheon, and worshipers who try to address Fennin on matters of ambition are routed politely upward.
Followers
Fennin Ro has few mortal worshipers in his own right; those who reach for the fire sphere typically address themselves to Solusek Ro and accept that the prayer may pass through Fennin on its way.
The exceptions are certain efreeti-aligned cults and a small number of fire-elemental specialist magicians, both of whom prefer the Tyrant's directness over the prince's politics.

Planar realm
The Plane of Fire is one of the four elemental planes of the modern progression and the Tyrant's seat. Fennin holds court in a magma-floored throne chamber at the heart of the plane, attended by efreeti, fire elementals, and burning constructs of his own design.
The plane is structured as a layered ascent of increasing heat; the lower halls are merely furnace-hot, while the throne chamber operates at temperatures that no mortal physiology should survive without protection. Veteran raid leaders treat the heat itself as a primary obstacle of the plane, on par with its inhabitants.
Defeating Fennin Ro is one of the four elemental kills required for entry to the Plane of Time. The Tyrant takes the contest seriously and his court is correspondingly well-prepared.
Notable myths
- The dividing of the fire, in which Solusek Ro is said to set Fennin into the elemental sphere as a separate face of the same flame
- The eternal duel with Coirnav, an unwinnable confrontation that the two elemental lords are said to renew at every cycle
- The first forge, attributed by some traditions to a meeting between Fennin and Brell Serilis in the deep places
- The throne of magma, said to be the only seat in any plane that has never gone cold
- The unconsuming flame, the central paradox of Fennin's sphere — fire that requires nothing, ends nothing, and simply burns
