Soulfire is a classic two-handed sword and the Paladin's defining pre-epic clicky item. Awarded at the end of the Soulfire quest chain — anchored by Sir Lucan d`Lere in the Freeport / Befallen story line — it is the weapon that gives a low- to mid-level Paladin a reliable emergency heal long before the Epic 1.0 chain becomes feasible.

The sword's identity is built around its Heal click, a free full-strength single-target heal usable on a cooldown. Stats

Soulfire is a 2H slasher with a stat line tuned for low- to mid-level Paladin progression — meaningful WIS and HP, a respectable damage / delay ratio for the era it ships in, and saves contributions across the board. The weapon scales well past the level it's first reachable at because the click effect, not the damage, is what carries the item.

Effect

The headline click is a free, full-strength single-target heal usable on a long cooldown. The click does not consume mana from the wielder, making Soulfire effectively an extra emergency cooldown a Paladin always has access to. The cooldown is long enough that it cannot replace primary healing, but short enough to factor meaningfully into tank survival during dangerous pulls.

The click can target self or any friendly in range, giving the Paladin one extra emergency tool whether they are tanking themselves or backing up a Warrior on a difficult pull. The heal magnitude is the headline value — full-strength single-target relative to the level range Soulfire is awarded in.

How to obtain

Soulfire is the reward of a multi-stage quest chain that runs through Sir Lucan d`Lere in West Freeport, with components pulled from Befallen and the Freeport Catacombs story line. The chain is doable solo or with a small group at the level range the quest is intended for, making Soulfire the rare iconic item that does not require a raid commitment to obtain.

Most pieces are no-drop and the chain has dialogue and faction gates that must be completed in order. Faction grinds with Freeport's lawful-aligned NPCs are required at multiple steps, and the chain runs cleanly only for Paladins with positive Knights of Truth standing.

Why it matters

Soulfire is one of the small handful of Classic items whose value sits entirely in the click. A Paladin holding Soulfire has an extra emergency heal in inventory at all times, regardless of mana pool — a survival cushion that lasts well into raid content. The item is also a status badge: a Paladin who completed Soulfire signals a level of class investment that more casual play does not.

The Paladin can swap to Soulfire for the click, fire the heal, and swap back — a small inventory-management cost for a meaningful emergency tool.

Era alternatives

Pre-Soulfire the Paladin relies on standard quest rewards and faction gear for 2H options — none of which carry a heal click. Soulfire is the first item in the class's progression curve that adds meaningful active utility on top of its melee stats.

After Fiery Defender lands, Soulfire continues to compete only on the click. The newer sword wins on every other axis — damage, stat line, proc — but Soulfire's heal click remains a niche emergency tool that no later 1.0-era item replaces.

The Last Camp any-race-class note

The Last Camp's open class system allows non-canonical Paladin race combinations to pursue the chain. The reward gating is class-based, so any character who advanced as a Paladin can complete Soulfire regardless of starting race.

The Freeport-area faction work that anchors the chain is friendlier to canonically good-aligned races; evil-aligned Paladin combinations on The Last Camp may need additional faction repair before the early Sir Lucan d`Lere dialogue is unlocked.

Lore note

The Soulfire chain ties the sword to the Sir Lucan d'Lere story line — a Knights of Truth narrative thread that runs through Freeport and Befallen. The chain frames Soulfire as a sacred relic given to a Paladin who has proven themselves worthy of carrying its protective flame. The heal click is the mechanical expression of that protective consecration.

The chain is one of the few Classic-era class-defining quests that does not require a raid commitment, which makes it culturally important — many Paladins remember their Soulfire completion as a foundational class moment, often years before they were able to attempt the epic chain.
